I listened to Bill Self's press conference this afternoon and, as usual, he comes off as very savvy and confident yet like "one of us". You know how some coaches come off like, well, the millionaires that they are? Self doesn't.
↵All throughout this Big 12 mess, Self has been the one speaking in public for Kansas. I mean, he's definitely the right person for the job but it's not like Kansas could have anyone else do it. Lew Perkins shouldn't be the face of your university given his recent incidents. Turner Gill is brand new. There were no other options.
↵But Self spoke candidly throughout the entire process and confidently said Kansas would turn out OK and land in a BCS conference.
↵At one point, I thought (maybe even wrote it, too) that Self was in denial regarding the state of the Big 12.
↵Yet everything turned out the way he predicted it would.
↵It's hard to argue that there's a better face-of-the-franchise than Bill Self.
