Is The Big 12 A Football Conference? Results Say No

Is the Big 12 a football conference? Recent evidence would say, relative to the rest of the BCS conferences, no they are not.

SB Nation's Tomahawk Nation compiled the total number of players on NFL active rosters from each major conference. The results speak for themselves:

Not surprisingly the SEC won this one. They're generally considered the conference closest to the NFL.

Here's why I think these results will be different in five years: The Big 12 runs a lot of the spread offense and NFL teams have had trouble determining how exactly those players translate to the NFL. Because it's been difficult, many NFL teams have started going to spread offenses themselves.

The NFL is quickly becoming a passing league and the Big 12 prides itself on big passing numbers.
