Former Mizzou Wrestler Hauls In A Victory At Power And Light District MMA Fight

Rock M Nation passed along an interesting story from the Kansas City Star this morning. Former Mizzou wrestler, Ben Askren -- now an MMA fighter -- had a match down at the Power and Light District in Kansas City last night.

Askren, still undefeated, took down in his opponent in what the Star called a "lopsided" victory.

In a sign that MMA is getting even more popular, Askren hauled in a $100,000 grand prize on top of the $75,000 he had already earned in the tournament.

↵

Seriously, $175,000 in a MMA fight at the P&L District? Geez. He moves onto the finals of the tournament against Lyman Good, which will take place this fall.

“I’m going to work him over,” Askren said, his trademark confidence coming through once again. “This is great, but it’s just a start. I’m only going to get better.”

Askren wrestled for Mizzou for five years (including one red-shirt year). He also repped the USA in the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
