Rock M Nation passed along an interesting story from the Kansas City Star this morning. Former Mizzou wrestler, Ben Askren -- now an MMA fighter -- had a match down at the Power and Light District in Kansas City last night.
↵Askren, still undefeated, took down in his opponent in what the Star called a "lopsided" victory.
↵In a sign that MMA is getting even more popular, Askren hauled in a $100,000 grand prize on top of the $75,000 he had already earned in the tournament.
↵Seriously, $175,000 in a MMA fight at the P&L District? Geez. He moves onto the finals of the tournament against Lyman Good, which will take place this fall.
↵↵↵“I’m going to work him over,” Askren said, his trademark confidence coming through once again. “This is great, but it’s just a start. I’m only going to get better.”
↵
Askren wrestled for Mizzou for five years (including one red-shirt year). He also repped the USA in the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
