Rick Ankiel has been sidelined since the first week of May due to a strained right quad. He's currently on rehab assignment in Omaha.
The last we heard from him, things were going well. In a Wednesday appearance, he was 3-for-4 including a double and a home run.
"It's going well," he said then. "As good as can be expected. It's just good to be on the field again. Being on the [disabled list] stinks."
He said then he was hoping to be back early next week.
Not so much. Per Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star, Royals recalled Ankiel from Omaha after his injury problems cropped up again.
If he's out for much longer -- and it sounds like he will be for a while -- expect the Alex Gordon to the outfield talks to start.
Ankiel hasn't started a game in the big leagues since May 1.
