The best part about signing a big contract, like the five-year, $55 million one Gil Meche signed at the end of 2006, is obviously the money. Suddenly, you're richer than you probably ever imagined.↵
The bad part, as Meche has found out, is the expectations that come with it, particularly when your deal is the largest in franchise history (tied with Mike Sweeney).↵
"It's tough. I need to be out there," Meche said. "I have this contract, and I need to earn it. You try not to get too down.↵
His statistics would say he's not earning it. He's 0-4 with a devil-like 6.66 ERA.
