Royals pitcher Brian Bannister uses physics and computer technology to help his game, according to a recent article in USA Today. Bannister takes to the computer after his games and looks for things like PITCHf/x, BABIP and xFIP. Simple, right?

Anyway, Bannister prides himself on keeping his career alive despite having average stuff. He wants to out-think the opponent. He uses a lot of these new technologies with abbreviations I've never heard of to study his game.

In light of Strasburg week, Bannister recently said he wouldn't even bother showing Strasburg the data he's collected.

"It doesn't even apply," Bannister says. "(His) physical talent is so good. … But about 80% of guys have average stuff."

Bannister, by the way, scored a perfect 800 on the math portion of the SAT. His dad had a 15-year, six-team career so he's hoping for similar success...despite having average stuff.
