Good News: Chiefs Defense Isn't New For Eric Berry

The Chiefs switched to the 3-4 in 2009 and the addition of Romeo Crennel as defensive coordinator will bring more of the 3-4. Crennel's version is a little different than Clancy Pendergast's, and it's a defense Eric Berry is familiar with.

I don't really think there's a difference on the back end - it's probably more up front because you have four linebackers and three defensive linemen, but you wouldn't have a different scheme, coverage-wise. In my freshman and sophomore years with (former defensive coordinator) John Chavis, it was a lot more like Romeo Crennel's defense, but we did that out of a 4-3. We ran pretty much the same coverages, so the stuff on the back end is pretty much the same.

Good news for Chiefs fans. Berry needs to get off to a good start in Kansas City and understanding the defense is a good start.
