Kansas City Star's Jason Whitlock Weighs In On George Steinbrenner

Jason Whitlock of the Kansas City Star appeared on Dan Patrick's radio show on Tuesday morning and gave his unique, Kansas City view of George Steinbrenner. Whitlock was asked what was the first thing he thought of when Steinbrenner came to mind.

Keep in mind I'm from Kansas City. Small market baseball here. The first thing that pops to my mind is bought championships. The second thing is probably over-the-top personality, creative, Mark Cuban, Jerry Jones and the owners we love to hate now.

Whitlock explained why Kansas City -- specifically because of the Royals and owner David Glass -- didn't like the late Steinbrenner.

Our owner in David Glass, Wal-Mart, everything on the cheap. So we look at George Steinbrenner with envy and hate. Sorry that he passed away for sure and I thought he was good for baseball. A dynasty is good for sports and he certainly created one. I don't think he and his staff of people are the smartest in baseball, I think they have the most money to spend.
