Move Over O'Brien, Mizzou QB Blaine Gabbert Also On Manning Award Watch List

It's been quite a 24 hours for Missouri Tigers QB Blaine Gabbert.

On Wednesday he was named to the prestigious Davey O'Brian Award watch list. That goes out to the nation's top quarterbacks. To win the award, you have to be on the watch list so that's a good start.

On Thursday, Gabbert landed on the Manning Award watch list. Gabbert was understandable pleased. Via Dave Matter of the Columbia Tribune:

"The Manning family is like the first family of quarterbacks, to be considered for the award is a real honor,” Gabbert said in a statement released by Missouri. “But I know it’s only pre-season, and that we’ve got a lot of work ahead of us as a team to reach our goals, so that’s what my focus is on."

The unique part of this award is that it does take bowl games into account. Other awards don't take into account what is sometimes the biggest game of the year.

Ten finalists will be named on Nov. 29 and the winner will be announced on Jan. 19.
