30 Years Ago Today, Royals And Yankees Brought Largest Crowd Ever To Kauffman

The Royals just finished up a series against the Yankees in the Bronx where they lost three of four games. Coincidentally, it was 30 years ago on this day that the Royals and Yankees brought the largest crowd in Kansas City major league baseball history.

It was 30 years ago today — July 26, 1980 — that a crowd of 41,860 at then-Royals stadium watched the Royals lose 5-4 to the Yankees. That remains the largest regular-season crowd ever to see a major-league game in Kansas City.

That's pretty amazing. Those teams in the 70s and 80s combined for some classic matchups but I'm a little surprised that 1985, the year the Royals won the World Series, didn't top the list somewhere.
