The Royals and Mariners will meet at SafeCo Field once again on Tuesday evening for game two of their three-game set.
The Royals took the early lead beating the Mariners in 10 innings Monday night thanks to a timely single from Yuniesky Betancourt in the 10th.
On Tuesday night, Zack Grienke takes the mound seeking his fifth win of the season. Greinke got the victory last week (after a wild 8th inning).
The starter for the Mariners was supposed to be Erik Bedard, returning from injury. However, some soreness from a bullpen session will keep him out again. It would have been his first start start since having surgery last August.
Here's what Dave Cameron of FanGraphs.com had to say about Ryan Rowland-Smith, the Mariners starter in place of Bedard, in an interview with Royals Review:
Rowland-Smith is your classic no-stuff, good command, flyball lefty, only this year, he hasn't had command, which is kind of a problem. He's got a good change-up, but he doesn't throw it behind in the count much, and so when he's missing with his fastball, he's a batting practice pitcher.
Sounds good for the Royals.
Sitting out tonight is Alberto Callaspo. He had some time off last week because of a sore wrist. After playing on Monday night, he'll get tonight off.
The Royals are trying to win a series in Seattle for the first time in eight years.
