Cowtown Rundown: Kansas City Sports News 8/2

Here's your daily dose of Kansas City sports news....

Royals are put in the rearview mirror

With training camp started and college football buzz starting, the Royals have officially been put on the back burner.

Every year, this is the time I begin to lose my focus on the Royals and I don't think I'm alone.

Baseball's a long, long season and by August you're mentally exhausted watching this club.

But, Royals fans, Kila Ka'aihue is in Kansas City so the future is starting to be built.

Chiefs camp in the first weekend

Observations from the first weekend at Chiefs camp in St. Joe

  • It's hot as can be
  • Dwayne Bowe made some serious progress over the offseason
  • Dexter McCluster is so fast and exciting as a rookie
  • The players feed off of the fans' presence
  • Between 3,000 and 5,000 fans have been going up to St. Joe every day so far

It's been a good start to camp. The players look prepared and in shape.

More Big 12/Big Ten talk coming

Big Ten Media Days are coming up so expect a little more talk on conference expansion and that whole mess.

Last week at Big 12 Media Days most of the head coaches avoided talk about it.

Most of these coaches haven't talked since the Big 12 stuff so they're going to be asked.

Just a heads up if you can handle it.

Is Nebraska really a unanimous pick?

Does Nebraska deserve to be a unanimous pick to win the Big 12 North?

Washington contended he was incensed by the Big 12 announcement that reporters covering the league had unanimously (by a 26-0 vote) christened Nebraska as the favorite to win the North Division. "That shows that we don’t have any respect right now," Washington said. "We’ve got to earn that back."

I can see folks picking them, but unanimous? Geez.
