Dave Matter of the Columbia Tribune has done a good job breaking down the situation surrounding Mizzou RB Derrick Washington. As you know, Washington was suspended indefinitely on Thursday and it was later reported he had been accused of sexual assault.
Here are a few details from Matter:
On June 19 at 2:30 a.m., Washington entered the victim’s room at Campus View Apartments "unwilling and unprovoked,” the order states. The victim awoke to him "digitally penetrating her."
Washington, 21, was an acquaintance of the alleged victim and her roommate, according to a source close to the alleged victim.
Check out his story for the full details.
Here's one key part of the situation: Sexual assault is a felony and, per Matter, Mizzou athletics policy says that a student-athlete charged with a felony can't be reinstated "until the matter is resolved."
That said, the prosecutor's office hasn't decided yet whether they would file charges.
It's looking less and less likely Washington will be available week one against Illinois.
