Chiefs vs. Chargers: Dexter McCluster, Shawne Merriman Unlikely To Play

Here's your first surprise of the Kansas City Chiefs 2010 regular season.

WR Dexter McCluster is very likely to miss the opener.

McCluster missed Friday's practice with an illness and is now listed as doubtful for Monday's game against the San Diego Chargers. In the league's language, doubtful means almost certainly won't play.

Also doubtful is Chargers LB Shawne Merriman, who didn't practice on Saturday.

The Chiefs also have LB Tamba Hali and RT Ryan O'Callaghan listed as questionable. LB Cameron Sheffield is out.

Hali is recovering from some sort of ankle injury while O'Callaghan is battling a groin injury. Sheffield has been out for several weeks with a neck injury.

If McCluster can't go, it 's a somewhat significant blow for the Chiefs. Not only is he a good player, but it would have been nice for a national audience to see an exciting team -- trust me, this team is a lot more exciting with McCluster than without him.
