Kansas City sports teams have been down for a while -- the professional ones at least.
The Chiefs haven't been the playoffs in three years. The Royals haven't been good for, well...a really long time.
But today will be one of the better Kansas City sports scenes in recent memory.
The Kansas City Royals kick off the day playing the Oakland A's at 2:05 p.m. (Arrowhead time). Once that game is over, the focus will turn to the Kansas City Chiefs playing the San Diego Chargers on Monday Night Football at 9:15 p.m.
It's the first time since 2003 that both teams have played on the same day.
Because of the logistical problems two games on the same day presents to two teams sharing a parking lot, the Chiefs and Royals have some important parking information for those attending the game:
- Gates for parking open at 3:30 for the Chiefs. If you show up before 3:30, you'll have to buy a Royals AND Chiefs parking pass. But if you do want to get there early, you have the option of doing so. It'll just be a little more expensive.
- The Truman Sports Complex will be EXIT ONLY from 5:00-6:00 p.m. This will be tricky. We'll see how this works out.
- The stadium opens at 7:30 p.m. for everyone. They'll be open at 6:30 p.m. for club level and suites.
- The Chiefs are requesting you to be in your seat at 8:35 p.m. for some sort of surprise.
What game tops this?
The No. 2 Missouri Tigers and No. 3 Kansas Jayhawks playing at Arrowhead Stadium back in 2007. The Royals and Cardinals series are always fun. The Chiefs Thanksgiving game back in 2006.
We'll see if The Longest Day Ever can top all of those. A victory by both teams might clinch it.
