Cowtown Rundown: Kansas City Sports News 9/13

Kansas City Chiefs make their debut this evening

The Chiefs will finally make their debut this evening against the San Diego Chargers. They'll play at 9:15 p.m. in the second Monday Night Football game of the night.

The Chargers have won the division the last few years so the Chiefs are looking to finally be apart of the AFC West division race.

With the Broncos and Raiders loss on Sunday, a Chiefs win would give them sole possession of first place in the AFC West.

Mizzou's running back controversy

OK, it's not exactly the same running back controversy as when Derrick Washington went out and they were determining who would replace him.

Mizzou's got a very good problem: Several good running backs. Who will play?

Kendial Lawrence was expected to be the man but he's had some shoulder issues, which prompted freshman Henry Josey to play more on Saturday night. He dominating scoring three touchdowns on his first four carries.

Mizzou will have to determine moving forward what they'll do when Lawrence gets healthy. It's hard to make an argument that Josey shouldn't get more time.

Turner Gill's big win

This win was significant for Turner Gill and the Jayhawks. The new AD that will be hired next spring will have no ties to Gill and therefore no reason to keep him. It happens often that the new hire will fire the guys who aren't "his". Gill likely realizes the significance of that dilemma and he also probably realizes how significant his win was against Georgia Tech.

I'm not sure what to think of this KU team. I can't recall anyone else losing to a team like North Dakota State in the fashion KU did then coming back and looking so sharp against a team highly ranked like Georgia Tech.

We'll see in week three.

Royals score six in the first, lose 12-6

The headline says it all.

The Royals got off to a 6-0 lead in the first inning. At that point, I quit paying attention to the Royals to watch football all day.

I return to see the score....12-6.

Yeah, the White Sox scored 12 unanswered to win the game.
