Kansas City Chiefs Hold San Diego Chargers For Last Second Win

The Kansas City Chiefs' defense, playing the best game of it's young career, beat the San Diego Chargers this evening by the score of 21 to 14.

I specifically mention the defense because offense didn't produce much (197 total yards) and it was the defense that stopped the Chargers on downs with seconds to go as San Diego was on the Chiefs' goal line.

The Chiefs' rookies really made their present felt tonight. Dexter McCluster had the longest punt return in Chiefs' history and Javier Arenas consistently put KC in good field position when he was returning kicks (in addition to playing nickel safety defense). Rookie tight end Tony Moeaki had a few catches, one of which was a short TD reception.

The crowd was a huge factor as well, causing numerous false start and delay of game penalties by the Chiefs. The New Arrowhead sounds a lot like the "old" Arrowhead.

Defensive MVPs for the Chiefs' include LB Derrick Johnson, DT Glenn Dorsey and DE Tyson Jackson. Others had very good games as well but those three Chiefs stood out the most.

Offensive MVPs are RB Jamaal Charles and I suppose RB Thomas Jones if you had to pick another player. The Chiefs' offense really didn't do much.

The Chiefs lead the AFC West with a 1-0 record.
