In a surprise, Denny Thum announced his resignation from the Kansas City Chiefs on Tues., Sept. 14 after 36 years with the Chiefs.
The thinking in a lot of circles is that it wasn't his idea to resign. If that's the case -- and there are strong indications it is -- then Thum is probably looking for work.
Brooks of Sports By Brooks reports that Thum is a candidate for the vacant Kansas athletic director job.
Last weekend I was told by two independent sources that Thum is a candidate for the vacant athletic director position at the University of Kansas.
Wow. There had been some chatter about this but no one as connected as Brooks has reported that he is indeed a candidate.
I'll say this: KU could do a lot worse.
After Thum announced his resignation, multiple media members took to Twitter, blogs and newspapers to sing his praises. He ran the contracts in Kansas City before GM Scott Pioli's arrival and oversaw the $375 million renovation to Arrowhead Stadium.
Thum has lived in Kansas City and has his family here so staying in the area certainly makes sense. It's filed under the "Rumor" category now but there are a few parts of this that definitely make sense.
