Bruce Chen Returns To the Kansas City Royals

One day after signing Jeff Francis, the Kansas City Royals have once again signed another left-handed starter, bringing back Bruce Chen on a one year contract for $2 million, with the chance that he makes more depending on performace.

Chen was 12-7 last season with a 4.17 ERA for the Royals. The 33 year old Panama native really came into his own last year leading the Kansas City staff in wins while having arguably his finest year. Orginially a free agent signee of the Atlanta Braves, Chen has pitched for the Braves, Phillies, Mets, Expos, Reds, Red Sox, Astros, Orioles, and Rangers before the veteran journeyman found his place with Kansas City in 2010.

While Kansas City's 2011 rotation is still not a strength, over the past two days they have become much more formidable. If Chen can continue to keep the ball in the ballpark as he showed last year with his improvement, he once again should be someone the Royals can count on in the upcoming season.
