Joel Sherman, baseball writer for the New York Post, says the Kansas City Royals are among the top five teams he has in on the Yu Darvish sweepstakes. That’s amazing news for a team that needs starting pitching perhaps more than any other team in baseball right now.
↵Darvish, for those who don’t know, could be the next great Japanese import. He’s only 25 years old and went 18-6 with a 1.44 ERA and 276 strikeouts this last season. Of course, he’s going to be incredibly costly — more so than any other player coming in — which means total investment of posting a bid and signing a deal could stretch well beyond $100 million.
↵The other teams on Sherman’s list include the Rangers, Blue Jays, Nationals and Mariners.
