Kansas City Chiefs Todd Haley Says Team 'Living On The Edge' At Tight End

The Kansas City Chiefs were set at tight end entering the season with promising star Tony Moeaki combining with Leonard Pope to anchor the position. One injured reserve transaction later and the Chiefs have been woefully thin since Moeaki was lost for the season. Thus, signing veteran Anthony Becht is a move that Toddy Haley says the team really needed to make at this point given the risk they run without enough bodies at the position.

“We’ve kind of been living on the edge from the tight end standpoint all year,” says Haley at today’s press conference. “We felt like we had an opportunity to bring Anthony back and he’s very familiar with what we’re trying to do, because he was here. We feel like he fits well with not only that group of tight ends, but with the entire team. I was fired up that we were able to get the scenario to go that way. It really came down from a risk standpoint of being real thin at tight end. Just trying to make sure that we’ve got all the bases covered so as we go forward we feel comfortable.”

Adding Becht eases some of that tension and allows the team to have another able-bodied veteran to fill in any gaps that exist or come up due to injury. Smart signing without any risk and hopefully Becht is a good addition.
