St. Louis Cardinals Are World Series Champions; David Freese Wins MVP

It was only fitting that Allen Craig, the one who hit what would be the winning home run in Game 7 of the World Series, caught the final out of the evening on a fly ball to left field by his Texas Rangers counterpart, David Murphy.

Tonight was the culmination of a special season for the Cardinals that almost wasn't. It took until the final evening of the regular season for St. Louis to win the wild card with some assistance from the Atlanta Braves. The team would then begin a magical run that saw some defeated both the Philadelphia Phillies and Milwaukee Brewers, before coming back from a 3-2 game deficit to defeat the Rangers.

David Freese won the NLCS and World Series MVP titles for the Cardinals and becomes just the sixth player ever to win both awards in the same season. During the 2011 World Series, Freese would hit .348 with seven RBI and one home run that will certainly live in the hearts of Cardinals fans forever. Oh, and he won a Corvette in addition to a shiny trophy.

Make sure to check out Viva El Birdos throughout the evening for more reports on the World Series title for the Cardinals.
