Ryan Doumit Set To Sign With Minnesota Twins

The rumors had been circulating that former Pittsburgh Pirates catcher Ryan Doumit was going to sign soon and he’s landed in close proximity to the Royals with the AL Central rival Minnesota Twins. The Twins have perhaps the best catcher in recent baseball history already with Joe Mauer, but injury concerns and a possible position switch makes an addition like Doumit a wise one. Doumit has always had injury issues of his own, but when he’s healthy, he provides a .300 capable bat with some solid power. Last year, he had a line of .303/.353/.477. The deal is reportedly for one-year for $3 million — a worthy gamble to fill the hole of Mauer’s loss (if that happens) as well as bolster a line-up that’s bound to lose a few players like Mike Cuddyer and Jason Kubel.
