Cyrus Gray Injury Update: Texas A&M Star Halfback Out Of Game, Perhaps Longer

Cyrus Gray returned from halftime against the Kansas Jayhawks without his pads on and it was clear he was likely done for the day. The Texas A&M running back was already spelled for in the (currently) 61-0 rout of Kansas, so there was definitely no need to press an issue. Then comes an odd roster move that might signal something bigger.

“Aggies just used frosh RB Will Randolph, burning his redshirt w/a 61-0 lead. You wonder what may be going on with Cyrus Gray,” wrote Suzanne Halliburton on Twitter, sportswriter for the Austin American-Statesman. To burn a redshirt with that lead and this late in the season is to waste what eligibility you have been saving all season for Randolph, and that might mean something about the longer-term health and availability of Gray.

On the season, Gray has been a great weapon out of the backfield for Texas A&M. The senior back has 189 carries for 951 yards and 9 touchdowns, good for a 5.0 yards/carry. He’s also caught 31 passes for 239 yards and another three touchdowns.
