Does anyone speak Irsay? It’s apparently a dialect of English that the owner of the Indianapolis Colts uses to write on Twitter and if you’re familiar with Jim Irsay and his famous Twitter account then you might be able to discern his latest musing on the quarterbacks of the 2012 NFL Draft class.
“Yea I saw Barkley n Luck last nite, and there’s others with big time potential..but we want 18 back under center soon/18 now-2012Class future.” That’s what Irsay wrote this afternoon on Twitter and it reveals at least a bit of what the Colts might be thinking about their probable first overall selection in the 2012 NFL Draft.
This is interesting for several reasons — not only for the entertainment value of Irsay but also for the drama behind what can happen in both the NFL Draft and Peyton Manning, one of the most iconic NFL players of all time. Irsay says the team wants Manning back under center next season and yet also acknowledges the fact that they’re likely to take a quarterback early. A team simply cannot afford to take any chances at the most important position on the field.
Still this also affects a team like the Chiefs who are without Matt Cassel for the rest of this season and must make a difficult decision with what to do with their own quarterback position in the near future. If the team continues to spiral downward this year, and they likely will with the insane schedule ahead of them, then they could have an early pick — and someone like Matt Barkley could be sitting there. At least everyone can acknowledge they have big play potential.
