Adrian Peterson Injury Update: Ankle Reportedly Not Broken, Only Sprained

The good news for Minnesota Vikings fans (and fantasy football players) is that Adrian Peterson’s injured ankle is apparently not broken according to Jeremy Fowler of the Pioneer Press. Instead, Fowler reports via Twitter, ’Heard from someone close to Peterson that an X-ray showed no break in his ankle, a matter of severity of sprain at this point."

Certainly Toby Gerhart will continue to take most of the carries for today and the injury is still likely to carry over for at least another week or more. Ankle sprains, after all, are injuries that can linger for some time and it was clear today that the Vikings running back was really hurting early in today’s game against the Oakland Raiders. But it’s good news for the long-term prognosis for Peterson that the NFL’s best running back could actually be back sooner than maybe some believed at first.

The team will likely address the issue further after the game and throughout this week. As for fantasy football value, bench Peterson and try to grab Gerhart on the waiver wire until further notice.
