The Texas Longhorns placed 14 student athletes on the Academic All-Big 12 Football first team and 23 overall to head all conference schools. Twelve Oklahoma Sooners were honored with a first-team selection. Missouri had 11 and Baylor and Kansas State both had 10 honorees named to the first team.
In addition, Brian Blackwell of Kansas, Zach Nemecheck of Kansas State, Matt Hoch and De’Vion Moore from Missouri, Gabe Ikard of Oklahoma and Jacob Russell of Texas A&M were singled out for achieving a grade average of 4.00.
The Academic All-Big 12 Football Team includes 87 first-team honorees and 48 on the second team.
First-team members have to maintain a grade average of 3.20 or better, either cumulatively or for the previous two semesters; second-team selections must have a GPA between 3.00 and 3.19.
