The Kansas City Chiefs have always had strong community ties to the greater KC area and beyond when it comes to helping those in need. This time of year, the focus includes helping to feed those who might go without with several initiatives to give away groceries, feed someone a Thanksgiving meal and other charitable efforts. This year, the Chiefs website reports that 550 volunteer hours and over $100,000 were donated to such causes.
“The annual Chiefs Thanksgiving Food Distribution is the most recognizable hunger relief initiative spearheaded by the club. This program, funded by the Hunt Family along with Chiefs players, coaches and staff, ensures those in need get a proper holiday feast to prepare at home. Since 1992, more than 14,500 families have benefited from this outreach effort. That includes a record 2,000 families in 2011, thanks to assistance by the club’s official grocery partner, Hy-Vee.”
