Today is potentially the last year for the Border War, the longstanding historic rivalry between the Kansas Jayhawks and the Missouri Tigers. While the teams involved have enjoyed less-than-desirable seasons, that doesn’t mean there’s nothing to look out for. In fact, the National Football Post says that today’s game is one of the highlights on the Big 12 schedule for today:
“We saw the end of the Texas-Texas A&M rivalry for the foreseeable future on Thanksgiving night, and Big 12 fans will say goodbye to the Missouri-Kansas rivalry, as well, with the Tigers moving onto the SEC,” writes Dave Miller in his Saturday Tailgate column. “Mizzou quarterback James Franklin is playing very well, just as many had expected before the season began. Will the Jayhawks be able to avoid ending their season on a 10-game losing streak? And will head coach Turner Gill get a third year in Lawrence?”
It’s already been noted that a decision on Gill is expected to come later on today after the game. Perhaps his fate has already been sealed. Perhaps there’s still a chance pending today’s outcome. But undoubtedly it will be a dramatic day either way at Arrowhead Stadium.
