News is still primitive, but there is word out of Venezuela this evening that Washington Nationals starting catcher Wilson Ramos has been kidnapped from his home is Maracay, Venezuela. The 24-year old just completed his rookie season for the Nationals after coming to the team from the Minnesota Twins in the Matt Capps trade.
Details are still be figured out at this time, but you can keep posted with updated information as it comes in by following Rafael Rojas on twitter. The Colorado Rockies writer has confirmed that this indeed did happen and will pass along information as it becomes available.
Unfortunately kidnappings among those with money has been increasing in Venezuela as the linked 2009 article from Time illustrates.
Baseball writer Kevin Goldstein followed up the early report by saying that Ramos had been approached by four gunmen at his home and was taken away. The family of Ramos has yet to be contacted concerning the kidnapping.
