In developing news out of the Penn State scandal, the Penn State Board of Trustees has come to the decision that both university President Graham Spanier and football coach Joe Paterno are no longer university employees. The move is immediate.
Earlier in the day Coach Paterno, who had been the head coach of the school since 1966, had announced to his players that he would be retiring at the end of the season. With the news out of State College, Paterno will not be allowed to coach through the end of the season.
Current defensive coordinator Tom Bradley, who played under Paterno from 1975-79, will oversee the team as interim coach. Bradley has been on staff at Penn State since 1980 and previously coached a game in 2006 which Paterno missed because of an injury.
Current Provost Rodney Erickson has also been named interim President of the university, taking over for Spanier who had been at Penn State since 1995.
