Two golfers who played at Kansas State during the past decade have advanced to the final round of the PGA qualifying school in La Quinta, Calif.
Aaron Watkins, who played at K-State from 2001-04, and Robert Streb, who was at the school from 2006-09, moved to the final round, which is being held for the next five days at thye Jack Nicklaus Course and the PGA West Stadium course in La Quinta.
Both golfers are hoping to earn their PGA Tour cards at this qualifying event. This is the second consecutive year that Streb has advanced to the final qualifying stage.
In the opening round, the first of six over six consecutive days, Watkins is tied with 15 others at four under par, four strokes back of the co-leaders. Streb was less fortunate in the opening round, firing a one-over 73, putting him nine shots off the pace.
The top 25 after six rounds will be eligible for a 2012 PGA membership and qualify to compete on the PGA Tour.
