After a tightly fought first half between the Kansas State Wildcats and the George Washington Colonials at Fred Bramlage Coliseum Thursday night, K-State extended their lead early in the second half for good, eventually dropping G.W. by the score of 69-56 to remain undefeated on the year thus far.
Freshman Thomas Gipson led all scorers with 17 on the night, as well as 13 boards on his way to an impressive double-double, finishing 6-11 from the floor and 5-7 from the stripe. Sophomore Will Spradling added 14 and four boards, while senior Jamar Samuels finished with a double-double as well with 10 points and 10 rebounds. As a whole the Wildcats shot a meager 37% from the floor, though they out rebounded the Colonials by a margin of +14, including some staunch defense throughout the night.
Senior guard Tony Taylor was the only player for George Washington in double figures, finishing with 14 points and four assists on the night. As a team G.W. shot only 31% from the floor, and a disheartening 11-21 from the line, a large factor in their loss this evening.
K-State now must turn their attention to a meeting with the Virginia Tech Hokies on Sunday in Blacksburg, with tip-off scheduled for 5:30 p.m. ET.
