Kevin Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder are looking for a 3-0 start to the season when they visit Rudy Gay and the Memphis Grizzlies Wednesday night. The Thunder defeated Orlando on Christmas Day and Minnesota on Monday. The franchise hasn't had a 3-0 start since the 2003-2004 season when it was still located in Seattle.
Memphis dropped its season opener falling to the San Antonio Spurs 95-82 on Monday. Rudy Gay scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Grizzlies in his first action since suffering a shoulder injury on Feb 15 of last season. Memphis coach Lionel Hollins was upset with his team's defensive effort following the game.
"We didn't play very well. We did turn the ball over a lot (24 times), but we didn't guard," coach Lionel Hollins said. "We didn't guard them in the pick and roll. We gave up transition points. It was not a very well-played game by us at all."
Memphis will have to come up with a much better effort if they expect to slow down the Thunder's dynamic duo of Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook. Durant has topped 30 points in both of Oklahoma City's wins this season and Westbrook finished with 28 points, six rebounds and six assists against Minnesota.
Oklahoma City defeated Memphis in seven games in the 2011 playoffs.
