Jefferson Powell is reporting via Twitter that the destination of Kevin Sumlin is already set and that he’ll be announcing the change soon enough. Powell notes via Twitter, “CBS Houston is reporting that Houston head coach Kevin Sumlin will be named Texas A&M head coach within 24 hours.” The Aggies recently fired Mike Sherman, their head coach of four years and it’s clear that they have their eyes set on someone in particular given the quick timing of Sherman’s firing and the fact that some of his staff didn’t even know before reports came out.
Sumlin has led the Houston Cougars to the No. 6 ranking in the AP Top 25 and they currently stand on the edge of a BCS berth. Despite the loss to Southern Miss today, it’s clear that Sumlin is a top head coaching candidate to choose from this off-season, so he needs to be the first domino to fall for everything else to fall in place — including for Kansas to find their head coach.
