Kansas Jayhawks Aim For No. 1 In Latest College Basketball Rankings

The latest college basketball rankings will come out on Monday afternoon and many expect the Kansas Jayhawks to be ranked No. 1 in the country. Kansas, ranked No. 2 in the country, easily handled Iowa State over the weekend while No. 1 Ohio State fell for the first time this season to Wisconsin.

That means No. 1 is out and Kansas is the favorite to take their spot. There's a question of whether Kansas will be ranked No. 1. That's because Texas, ranked No. 3, has already beaten Kansas this year. In fact, that's KU's only loss this season. Texas, on the other hand, has lost three games this year so I'd be surprised if they leapfrogged Kansas. There also seems to be some momentum that Ohio State could stay in the top spot.

Kansas will be No. 1 for the first time since the end of last year's college basketball season. Forward Marcus Morris says he wants to get the top billing in the latest AP poll.

"I want to be ranked number one," Marcus Morris said after beating Iowa State on Saturday. "I want to have that chip on our shoulder every time we go out. I want to get everybody's best shot because I think we can take it. T-Rob (Thomas Robinson) did go out, but we have other guys that can step up and I want that chip on our shoulders."

If and when Kansas gets that No. 1 ranking, they'll be tasked with defending it without Thomas Robinson or Josh Selby. Robinson will miss approximately two weeks with a meniscus tear while Selby is still day-to-day with a stress reaction.

We're a few hours away from confirming that the Kansas Jayhawks will indeed be the top team in the country.
