NCAA Basketball Rankings: Does Kansas Have A Shot At No. 1 Over Ohio State?

Could Kansas become the No. 1 team in the country? Maybe it's not likely, but it's possible. The latest college basketball rankings will see a shake-up after a week in which five top 10 teams (in the AP poll) lost a game.

That starts at the top with No. 1 Duke, who lost to Virginia Tech over the weekend.

No. 2 Ohio State and No. 3 Kansas kept their record clean and didn't lose this week. No. 4 Pittsburgh and No. 5 Texas both lost this week -- Pittsburgh to Louisville and Texas to Colorado -- meaning both of those teams can expect to tumble. Also losing was No. 6 San Diego State to No. 7 BYU.  No. 8 Purdue and No. 9 Notre Dame won both their games this week so they'll be moving up, perhaps multiple spots. No. 10 Arizona also lost last week.

So breaking this down, the Kansas Jayhawks and/or Ohio State Buckeyes will be No. 1 after this. OSU was in second with the previous rankings so I imagine they get top billing. Plus, Kansas didn't exactly impress the last time they were No. 1 losing within just a few hours to Kansas State (and losing big).

There's also the question of what will happen to Texas. Until playing Nebraska last week, they were arguably the hottest team in the country -- Bill Self said they were the hottest -- and making a statement that they deserved consideration for the top spot int he AP poll.

And then they lost to Nebraska. And then they lost to Colorado. Yeah, so no dice on the top spot.

The rankings will be released late Monday morning.
