In the least surprising news of the day, the Kansas Jayhawks basketball team gained a No. 1 seed on Selection Sunday. The 2011 NCAA tournament bracket is out and, as expected, KU is the No. 1 seed. They'll be playing No. 16 seed Boston University in the Southwest bracket.
If Kansas wins in round one, they'll play the winner of the 8-9 game between UNLV and Illinois. The Illini would be a cool matchup because that is where KU head coach Bill Self used to coach.
So, as we all expected, the Jayhawks are a No. 1 seed. Clearly, they're one of the best teams in the country, if not the best. They finished the season at 32-2 losing games to Kansas State and Texas. They did, however, also beat K-State and Texas as well.
With Big 12 player of the year Marcus Morris, Big 12 coach of the year Bill Self and key role players like Markieff Morris, Kansas is in excellent shape to make a serious run in the tourney. They're one of the deepest teams in the country, too, which should help their chances of making a run.
It all tips off next week. Thank you that March Madness is finally here.
