I'm not a fan of NASCAR. I don't have anything against it by any means -- I'm just not a "NASCAR guy". I haven't followed it, I don't know the rules and I couldn't tell you the first thing about it. I grew up in Kansas City as a fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals. NASCAR is becoming one of the most popular sports in the country but, despite that, I still haven't gotten into it.
I keep saying one of these years I'll learn more about NASCAR and become a fan because, as someone who likes to hang around on the couch and watch sports on Sundays, NASCAR seems like a good match.
So I'm going to try to become a NASCAR fan and I want you to come along for the ride.
Over the next several weeks and months I'm going to learn more about the sport and figure out what the big hubbub is about NASCAR. I can't stress to you how little I know about NASCAR. With that, I'm enlisting the help of SB Nation's resident NASCAR expert, Jeff Gluck, to give me a tutorial of sorts.
Each week, Mr. Gluck will be putting us in "NASCAR 101" and helping us learn more about the sport, teaching us that there's more strategy involved than just going around the course very fast, understanding what the points systems is and explaining who each driver is.
