The most surprising news of the day may be that Missouri Tigers guard Kim English will declare for the 2011 NBA draft. Jeff Goodman of FOXSports.com reports he will not hire an agent.
In a word: wow. I did not see this moving coming at all. The deadline to declare early is April 24 and, if he doesn't hire an agent, can potentially change his mind, which he'll have to do by May 8. So the decision not to hire an agent is an important part of this story.
The first question I have: Will he even be drafted? I'm not sure that's a sure thing which makes this news so surprising. Draft Express has him being drafted late in the second round.
The second question I have: Is this decision a result of Mizzou hiring Frank Haith? Goodman reports the decision was made prior to Mizzou reportedly deciding to hire Haith (which is not yet official, by the way) but it's a curious situation.
Last year at Mizzou he averaged 10 points and 3.1 boards per game which was actually a decrease from his sophomore campaign which saw him score 14 points and 3.4 rebounds per game. English was on the preseason Wooden award list but quickly fell off after a so-so season.
English is a 6'6", 200 pound guard out of Baltimore.
And of course all this news is assuming there is even a 2011 NBA draft with the current labor situation.
