Royals Sign Jeff Suppan

A lot of minor league signings usually go unnoticed, but today the Kansas City Royals signed free agent pitcher Jeff Suppan to a minor league deal. The news broke via Dick Kaegel. You may recall Suppan, 36, was with the Royals from 1998-2002.

During his time with Kansas City, Suppan was 39-51 with 4.69 ERA and and 1.40 WHIP. For four straight seasons he pitched over 200 innings with Kansas City, the usual benchmark number most starters look to throw each season. Suppan was Kansas City's Opening Day starter three years in a row from '00-'02.

His career numbers are 138-143 with a 4.69 ERA and a 1.46 WHIP over 16 seasons with Boston, Arizona, Kansas City,  Pittsburgh, St Louis, and Milwaukee.
