With the news of Danny Duffy set to make his major league debut this evening for the Royals against the Rangers, the Royals need to make a roster move to allow Duffy to join the 40-man roster.
Kansas City has decided to designate reliever Kanekoa Texeira for assignment. Texeira, 25, joined the Royals last season after he was selected off waivers from the Seattle Mariners. As a Rule V selection, he was with the big league club all season and appeared in 27 games out of the bullpen, posting a 1-0 record with a 4.64 ERA.
In 6 games with Kansas CIty this season he was 0-0 with a 2.84 ERA in 6.1 innings pitched. The downfall this season was a 2.53 WHIP, as he was optioned down to AAA Omaha on May 18 as Kansas City brought up Louis Coleman.
Kansas City will now have 10 days to try and work out a trade for Texeira before he is placed on waivers. Given his age, there is a good chance he would be picked up on waivers by another team if he is not traded.
