While the sample size isn’t much to look at, Animal Kingdom has nevertheless been an incredible impressive colt in his short racing career. Now owner Team Valor and trainer Graham Motion can extend that legacy at the 136th Preakness Stakes.
The first horse in 93 years to win the Kentucky Derby with only four previous races to his credit, Animal Kingdom has finished first or second in all five races in his career. The two second place finishes came in Animal Kingdom’s first and third overall races. The first was last September in a Maiden Special Weight race at Arlington Park, and the second came in his first race this spring, an allowance race at Gulfstream Park in Florida. Overall, Animal Kingdom has finished at the top at five different tracks on three different surfaces.
A win at today’s 136th Preakness Stakes will cement Animal Kingdom’s short yet impressive legacy alongside some of the greatest horses in racing history
