Olathe South High School senior Megan Smith is recognized in this week’s Sports Illustrated “Faces in the Crowd” standing feature.
Smith recently was gold medalist in the shot put and followed that with a second-place throw in the discus in the high school division at the 84th annual Kansas Relays, held at the University of Kansas in Lawrence.
The Olathe South track and field standout posted a winning distance of 46-feet, 5 1/2 inches in the shot put at the KU Relays. Just two weeks later, Smith put the shot a season-best 48 feet, 9 1/2 inches, the third-best distance in the nation by a high-schooler this spring.
Next fall, the defending Kansas 6A champion in the shot put will attend Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, where she will compete for the Horned Frogs’ women’s track and field team.
