Tony Schumacher set a new track record at Heartland Park in Topeka Friday night during his top-fuel qualifying run for this weekend’s National Hot Rod Association Summer Nationals event. The top-fuel defending champion at the NHRA Summer Nationals, Schumacher recorded a blazing 324.12 mph in an elapsed time of 3.798 seconds to set a new track record.
His first-place finish in Friday’s qualifying made Schumacher the top provisional qualifier for Sunday’s final-eliminations. There will be additional qualifying today in all three race categories: topo fuel, funny car and pro stock.
