2011 Preakness: Animal Kingdom, Others Set For Fast Start At Pimlico

The weather is perfect and the track conditions are ideal at Baltimore’s Pimlico Race Course for the running of the 136th Preakness Stakes. The highlight of the day is, of course, Animal Kingdom as the surprise Kentucky Derby winner looks to take the second leg of the Triple Crown, but other favorites like Dialed In look to trump the rather inexperienced horse on a track and surface he’s not used to.

The official temperature is 82 degrees and the conditions are sunny, which means today’s race is without any curveballs to throw off the field. The official track condition is “fast” and the turf is “good” which gives field favorites like Dialed In a leg up over the competition along with Animal Kingdom. Shackleford and Mucho Macho Man are also expected to finish strong.

The official post time is 6:18 ET/5:18 CT and coverage can be found on NBC.
