Big 12 Conference commissioner Dan Beebe said today in an interview that the conference will continue with its current name despite losing two members, reducing the structure of the 15-year-old league to 10 members. Beebe said that the decision to leave the conference name unchanged was made by the league’s board of directors.
Most people believe that the Big 12 is the name on the banner under which we have competed, under which we have won national championships," Beebe said. “I think the name we have is the name we’re going to continue with.”
The commissioner said that a new branding campaign that will promote the strength of the conference’s remaining 10 member institutions will likely be unveiled during Big 12 football media days in late July.
