Spring NASCAR Race At Kansas Speedway Will Move From Early June Date

NASCAR officials announced this week that the spring Sprint Cup race at Kansas Speedway, held June 5 this year, will move to another date on the 2012 calendar.

The first weekend after Memorial Day weekend is being returned to Dover International Speedway next year, which has been a traditional date for that track except for this year.

The June 5 race at Kansas Speedway was the first time for a spring Sprint Cup race in Kansas City. For the last 10 years, the Speedway has hosted an October Sprint Cup race. NASCAR made the decision late last year to hold two races at Kansas, beginning with the 2011 season.

The spring Sprint Cup race will either be moved to the first weekend in May or perhaps later in June or July, when the temperature generally becomes much hotter in Kansas City. Kansas Speedway president Pat Warren told reporters this week, "We’re at the very early stages of the schedule announcement. I was surprised to see Dover make this announcement," he said.

"I haven’t looked at the calendar yet; I haven’t looked at what the other opportunities are. I don’t know if anybody else is moving. The whole thing is like a Rubik’s Cube. I don’t know what else might be in play."
