In a somewhat refreshing move on a sports video game, the NBA 2K series is releasing their latest game with an homage to NBA Legends on the cover, rather than the hype of a Madden type of game over “Who will make it?” They recently announced that NBA 2K12 will feature Michael Jordan, Larry Bird and Magic Johnson on the front cover.
The NBA is not without its stars in the current era. In fact, the league has more larger-than-life superstars at this point than perhaps ever before. Yet the league also has an incredible history and pulling out such a move lends some nostalgia, credibility and respect to the league and the game.
Then again, the best move would be to put Muggsy Bogues on the cover for kicks. I’d actually buy that version.
