The day is finally here — the long awaited arrival of the men’s singles final at the 125th Championships at Wimbledon and it’s come down to two of the three familiar faces that most expected to see — the very opposite of yesterday’s match between Maria Sharapova and Petra Kvitova. Today, Rafael Nadal, the tournament’s top seed and former No. 1 world ranked tennis player as of a few days ago, faces Novak Djokovic, the new No. 1 seed and hottest player of 2011, in a final that could easily go all five sets.
For Nadal, this is about adding to the resume of a list of career achievements that already places him alongside the greatest to ever pick up a racket. Winning at Wimbledon would be his 11th Grand Slam title. For Djokovic, you’re seeing a player fully come into his own and establish himself at a time when few people could even break through once, simply because of the level of elite play in men’s tennis currently. It’s a testament to his skills and this Wimbledon would represent his third Grand Slam title and would truly force the list to grow to three when mentioning the familiar top players.
The game will be played on NBC at 8am CT, and you can catch bonus Wimbledon coverage online at ESPN3.com for a live stream of other action. Also, ESPN will be broadcasting Sportscenter from Wimbledon at 2pm CT as well, so for further breakdown from All England, stay tuned there.
